FISHTOWN

We made our way from Traverse City to Leland on Thursday the 14th. Leland is a cute town and surrounded by beautiful water. Although- the marina water wasn't as clear as what we have seen.

Leland is also called Fishtown because it has the last working fishery in Michigan. It's small but pretty cute.

Our first night we ate in and chilled out a bit. On Thursday, we walked around all morning- which pretty much did it for sightseeing - and then had thought about hitting the beach, but the boat was calling. It was pretty filthy and was in need of a really good clean.

After that, we had dinner at the only restaurant in town, which had lots of fish on the menu and one veggie item- a veggie burger. It was actually really good though. But the Cubby Mary…..🤮. Mike did say the fish was very tasty…. Yes, he ate it.

Not much else to say about Leland. Cute and educational about the old fishing towns. Lots of clothing stores… I mean lots. All within two blocks of each other.

Pictures:

  1. Our new radar Pole. And— I guess there were a few non functioning operations on the old one. Presumably from when we took the arch down back in 2020. So, score all the way around.

2 and 3 are Mike’s “chubby” Mary. Gross!!!.

4. And 5. Artifacts in the restaurant. Pretty cool little restaurant in Fishtown.

6. Looking at Marina

7. Looking at Fishtown next to the marina

8. Entering or leaving the marina- can’t remember

9. Local Beach

10. River above Fishtown

11 and 12. The Damn at fish town. Big building is the Falling Waters Lodge which is across the bridge to the Cove which is where Mike got his Cubby Mary.

13. Information on someone who worked for fishtown

14 and 15. The river which runs into Lake LeeLanau

16 and 17. Main Street Leland

18- below- it wasn’t playing nice in the gallery- Mike’s Chub fish smoking earlier in the day. I am still grossed out by the whole experience. 😅

Today headed to Frankfort.

It was a beautful day, but a little roll-y on Lake M. None the less, a lot of sand dunes on our way and Sleeping Bear National Park looks pretty cool from the water.

Frankfort is a cute town on first glance and tomorrow they are hosting an IronMan triathalon, of which they will be swimming right out front of our boat and running right behind our boat. In the spirit of all this, we will enjoy a nice Bloody Mary- No Chub- and watch all the athletes go…after we watch them all be crazy athletic, we will be sure to have some inspiration from it all go for a good walk or bike ride. 💪🚴‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏊‍♂️

The Dockmaster here is very nice, friendly and helpful. I also met the former dock master who is down here hanging out, along with a few other of their friends. A great group elderly gentlemen just enjoying life. Pretty cool.

I will post more on Frankfort tomorrow after we experience some of it. In the meantime, enjoy the pictures from the way down. All some sort of sand dune or house along the Empire Coast of Lake M.

1 and 2. Notice the stairs.🤷‍♀️. Don’t misstep on those!!!

8 and 9 our channel coming into Betsie Bay and Franford

10. The course is set up and ready to go.

All others- pictures on the way down….

That’s it. MadDog signing off. ( Might have to actually name our next boat that )
