Killarney Mountain Resort and coming into Killarney channel (#5).

Wix is a little buggy on the iPad and its a pain to move pictures around so, some are a little out of sequence today..

And no, we did not somehow make it to Ireland. 🇮🇪 I had no idea that Ontario had a Killarney, but they do. Killarney is the unofficial Gateway to the northern channel of Lake Huron and is quite beautiful. . The town itself. Well, maybe it has one street. It has three marinas, a general store and is the home of Herberts world renowned fish n Chips. ‘

We chose the Killarney Mountain Lodge Marina., which is the first in the 3 marina stretch down Killarney Channel. It’s actually quite beautiful. We would totally come back. Maybe by land next time. But its all log cabins and very well presented.

Mike went to Herbert’s world renowned fish n chips and reported that the fish was good, but not life changing. They literally only serve Fish n Chips so yours truly didn’t partake, except a few fries. The fish was fresh though. It is caught each day.

The water here is amazing and we are looking forward to exploring the area for a few days.

So, where have we been—.From Rawley Resort we went to South Bay Cove Marina where we were able to explore on the tender a bit. It was a nice marina and the dockmaster was quite knowledgeable about boating these waters and beyond.

The next night we anchored out in Echo Bay and then a we headed on to Parry Sound.

.

Our anchorage was peaceful. Except, finding a place for the dogs was tough. At the end of the day, I just trespassed onto private docks and yards. I At least chose docks that looked like they were weekend places and not inhabited at the time.

Parry Sound was a nice town. They are home to the highest railroad bridge in Canada And the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame.

When we arrived at the marina, a very nice woman just came to us, gave us her car keys and told us to go provision. She didn’t even ask our name. Just one boater helping another.

Georgian Bay has a small craft channel which runs along the coastline and is beautiful. It is also very twisty and windy avoiding all of those 30,000 islands. We took the inside channel all the way to Parry Sound. When we moved on to Killarney , we went outside and made 80 miles quite easily. When you run outside, there are plenty of times when you can’t see land and it is known to get foggy. We encountered some fog, but nothing too terrible.

Today we are going to try our luck at getting an anchorage at Baie Fine.

Baie Fin is the largest freshwater Fjord in the world. I, for one did not realize that they largest freshwater Fjord is on our backyard,. ( ok, not Florida, but VT. ). We live 10 hours away from Baie Fine If you come by car instead of boat.

Anyways, we are so excited to see this Fjord and will report back on this. If your interested, here is information on it. . https://www.great-lakes-sailing.com/baie_fine.html

Also, I realized I didn’t post about the Big Chute in case anyone wants to read about the marine railway. https://parks.canada.ca/lhn-nhs/on/trentsevern/visit/posteeclusage-lockstation/ecluse-lock-44-BigChute

We still have no Wi-Fi so i can’t put any video links out, etc,. But there is so much up here in Canada right in our VT backyard that we had no idea existed. it is just amazing.

Thus far, We have travelled canal systems that still have locks that work like they did 100 years ago. We have gone through the largest and oldest lift locks in North America. We have been through the Big Chute- the only marine railway of its kind in North America. We have traveled through 30,000 islands and are now heading to the largest freshwater fjord in the world ! You don’t have to go far to see amazement all around you.

If you want to come see any of these things by land, we are now at our farthest point from VT so far which is 10 hours away. It’s kind of crazy that a month of boat travel can be done in 10 hours by car. We were getting channel 3 WCAX as our primary news channel right up until about a week ago. It has indeed been a very twisty windy waterway up until this point.

From Baie Fine , we will be getting into much bigger water though. So, we will travel more miles in a straighter line. We will also be more dependent on good weather. It already looks like we will need to lay up early next week due to big winds.

Next update might be during Baie of Fine or after- who knows what cell service will bring.
